New charity aims to get the people of Norfolk to be more active

A brand-new charity in Norfolk will be working alongside funders and local partners to inspire more people to be physically active, with a focus on projects that serve communities and groups that suffer most from inequalities.

Introducing the Active Norfolk Foundation

With nearly 1 in 3 (29%) people in Norfolk classed as inactive, the newly established Active Norfolk Foundation will seek to bring new sources of funding into the County and help people get active and sustain that change. Any new funding will enable existing and new projects to flourish and drive forward better engagement with being more active where it is needed most.

This will mostly be done in conjunction with key partners from the voluntary sector, local government and the health system as well as working in close partnership with the existing Active Norfolk organisation hosted by Norfolk County Council.

A brand new journey

Chair of the Active Norfolk Foundation, James Wright, a former Lord Mayor of Norwich, commented, “We are excited to begin our journey as a new charity and try to do what we can to allow people in Norfolk to access opportunities to be more physically active. We hope that we can bring more money into the county to invest in suitable projects that could bring a range of benefits across Norfolk. Being physically active is worth an estimated £1.27bn* in wellbeing value to the county of Norfolk.

‘We’re determined to increase the level of investment to where it is needed most to generate even more benefits for our county. We look forward to working closely with a range of like-minded partners in Norfolk to benefit our most deprived communities and groups.”

How can I get involved with the Active Norfolk Foundation?

Initially the charity will focus on securing funding for projects that benefit Children and Young People. Updates will be available on progress at www.activenorfolk.org.

However, the Foundation are keen to hear from any partners that might be interested in working together. To find out more about the charity, including how to get in touch, click the link below.
