Active NoW celebrates three years of supporting healthier lives
This January marks three years since the launch of Active NoW; the physical activity referral pathway helping people across Norfolk and Waveney become more physically active to improve their health and wellbeing.
We know that being physically active can make living with many long-term health conditions more manageable. For that reason, Active NoW aims to encourage those with long-term conditions to introduce more movement into their daily lives.
Since launching in January 2023, Active NoW has become an established part of the local health and physical activity system, supporting thousands of people across Norfolk and Waveney to take positive steps towards a more active lifestyle.
Over the past three years:
- Over 12,500 people have been referred into the programme, with approximately 4,500 referrals received in 2025.
- 70% of referrals have been successfully supported into physical activity.
- The programme continues to support people living with long-term health conditions, with the most common being hypertension, musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, helping them access physical activity that feels achievable, appropriate, and sustainable.
What participants say
The impact of Active NoW is best reflected in the experiences of the people it supports.
We’ve chosen some quotes from participants when asked for feedback on the programme. These quotes showcase some of the multiple benefits on offer.
“It has changed my life! I’m fitter and feeling better about myself.”
“Active NoW gave me the opportunity to do something positive about my health.”
Looking ahead to 2026
Active NoW is a prime example of how collaboration between health, physical activity, and community partners can create lasting change – supporting people not just to be active, but to feel more confident, capable, and connected in their everyday lives.
As the programme enters its fourth year, the focus remains on ensuring the programme continues to support those who can benefit most, while adapting to local needs and opportunities.
