Fantastic Norfolk School Games Cross-Country finals showcased outstanding talent and community spirit

This week, Thetford High Lodge played host to the exhilarating Norfolk Cross-Country finals. The event delivered a spectacle of athletic ability and camaraderie.

Bringing together an impressive assembly of 640 spirited students hailing from primary schools across Norfolk, the Norfolk School Games event was filled with energy and enthusiasm. The competition featured scenic forest routes for girls and boys across year groups 3 to 6, each race witnessing the determined efforts of 80 dedicated runners.

What are the Norfolk School Games?

The Norfolk School Games aims to put physical activity at the heart of schools and provide all young people opportunities and experiences that can make a meaningful difference to their lives.

“We are elated to witness the remarkable talent and sportsmanship exhibited by these young athletes,” expressed Eve Dewsnap, Director of Active Norfolk. “The Norfolk School Games Cross-Country Finals have evolved into a pivotal event, cultivating a sense of community and creating positive experiences among those participating.”

Winners from the event were acknowledged with sustainable medals, recognising their commitment and accomplishment in the competition. Additionally, all runners will receive information on expanding their running experience through local clubs and opportunities including Junior Parkrun.

The success of the event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the participating schools and the support of parents.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the schools, parents, and the dedicated team of School Games Organisers who contributed to the success of this event,” added Eve Dewsnap. “Their support epitomises the collaborative spirit that makes these competitions unforgettable for the students.”

The Norfolk School Games Cross Country Finals underscored the significance of physical activity, teamwork, and community engagement in the development of young individuals. The event organisers are enthusiastic about building on this success in the years to come. We want to continue to inspire and nurture a passion for physical activity in children and young people across Norfolk.
