Active Norfolk secures £385,000 to help create physically active communities across Norfolk
Active Norfolk has secured £385,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund to support a new three-year programme aimed at helping more people across Norfolk become physically active.
The Creating Physically Active Communities project will see Active Norfolk work alongside 50 community organisations across the county, helping them develop and grow opportunities for people who face the greatest barriers to being active.

What is the Creating Physically Active Communities project?
The programme is built around a simple principle: the people who know their communities best are often best placed to identify what will help residents lead healthier, more active lives. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, the project will support organisations to develop solutions that reflect the needs, strengths and priorities of the people they work with.
What will the funding go towards?
As part of the project, Active Norfolk will carry out 14 Community Voice consultations to better understand the experiences of people from underrepresented communities and the factors that make it easier, or harder, for them to be active.
The funding will help create new opportunities for physical activity across Norfolk, with a particular focus on communities experiencing the greatest inequalities. Over the course of the project, Active Norfolk aims to support at least 500 people through activities delivered by local organisations, helping participants become more active while also improving their mental wellbeing.
The project will also strengthen the organisations at the heart of their communities, supporting them to build partnerships, attract future investment and continue delivering opportunities long after the programme has ended. Alongside this, the work will encourage active travel and make greater use of Norfolk’s parks, green spaces and outdoor environments.
“We’re fortunate to already work with many fantastic organisations across Norfolk that are helping people to be more active in ways that suit them. This funding allows us to deepen those relationships, reach new communities and support organisations to develop opportunities that can make a lasting difference.
We want to help create environments where being active feels accessible, welcoming and relevant to people’s everyday lives. By working together with communities, we can support more people to move more, improve their wellbeing and feel connected to the places where they live.”
