Our work with Inclusivity: Breaking down barriers to a physically active lifestyle

Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan At Active Norfolk, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of being active, regardless of their background, circumstances or lived experience.

Creating safe, welcoming and inclusive opportunities is at the heart of our 2026–2030 strategy. We are committed to tackling inequalities and supporting the individuals, groups and communities who would benefit most from being more active.

Our commitment to equality

We know that people experience different barriers to being active. That’s why we take an equitable approach, providing the right level of support to those who face the greatest inequalities.

By recognising and responding to people’s different needs, we can help more people access physical activity and experience the physical, mental and social benefits that being active brings.

People who experience the greatest inequalities are often those who have the most to gain from being active. For those facing two or more barriers, access to physical activity can have a particularly significant impact on health, wellbeing, confidence and a sense of belonging.

So, what are we doing about it?

Our 2026–2030 strategy due in July will set out the priority areas where an equitable approach will guide the work of Active Norfolk and our partners, helping to ensure that support reaches those who need it most.

We want everyone to feel that they belong. We are committed to promoting diversity and creating environments where people from all backgrounds feel safe, respected and supported to take part. This commitment shapes everything we do, both within our organisation and through the work we deliver with partners across Norfolk. Championing diversity and inclusion Our Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is a live document that sets out practical actions to help us deliver more equitable and inclusive programmes, partnerships and ways of working. By working alongside partners and supporting them to develop their own inclusive approaches, we aim to influence the wider physical activity and sport sector and create safer, more welcoming opportunities for everyone.
