Children’s Free School Meal Prevalence Map

Children growing up in poverty or areas of deprivation are less likely to be active, and are therefore at greater risk of poorer health outcomes than children from more affluent areas.

The following map shows the percentage of children who are eligible for free school meals (FSM) across Norfolk. This can be used to help you identify and target areas with higher levels of children experiencing deprivation.

What does the map tell us?

  • The number of children eligible for free school meals has increased in 2021 and 2022.
  • It currently equates to around 1 in 4 children in Norfolk.
  • The number of children eligible in Norwich and Great Yarmouth is significantly higher.

The map is created using anonymous data provided by Norfolk County Council and is updated each half term with the date last updated listed at the bottom making it a very reliable source of insight.
