BRAND NEW: Our Impact Report for 2024-2025 is out now! See what we’ve been working on over the previous year.

How will you take part in National Fitness Day?

This year National Fitness Day falls on Wednesday 22nd September, and we want to encourage as many people in Norfolk to take part.

Whether you walk, run, cycle, skate, play or dance, everything counts towards being active. However you choose to be physically active, why not aim to do it with a friend, family member, neighbour or colleague on National Fitness Day?

What is National Fitness Day?

National Fitness Day is an opportunity to highlight the importance of physical activity in leading a healthier and happier lifestyle. It is a day recognised across the UK. It sees people across the country participating in activities and events they might not otherwise take part in.

We are partnering with LILYBetter Together, and CAN Connect this year to recognise National Fitness Day and provide some vital resources to help people take part.

Why is #FitnessDay so important?

It’s estimated that around 40,000 people in Norfolk experience loneliness or social isolation. Feeling lonely and isolated has a real impact on a person’s physical health and also their mental wellbeing.

Taking part in physical activity provides a fantastic opportunity to meet people. You can also discover new ways of being active whilst having fun.

How can I get involved?

Getting involved could be as simple as getting out for a walk, run or cycle. You could meet up with a friend and go for a wander, or go cycling with the kids.

If you know of someone who might be a little more isolated, this is the perfect opportunity to reach out to them. You could offer support and friendship. Whether it’s an elderly neighbour or relative, or perhaps a friend with limited mobility, why not see if you can help them try something new on National Fitness Day?

If you can’t commit to an activity on this day, don’t worry. We’re encouraging people who are unable to take part to use the day as an opportunity to make a pledge to be active.

We are partnering with LILYBetter Together, and CAN Connect this year to recognise National Fitness Day. This year, we’ve teamed up to bring together resources and opportunities that you can access to get moving. Get together, and feel connected to tackle loneliness and social isolation. Check these out below.

We’d love to see how you’ve got moving with your friends and family. Share your photos and videos with us on Facebook or Twitter by using #norfolkfitnessday
