Stay active through lockdown with charity squat challenge for Mind

With gyms closed and the shorter days making it harder for people to be active outside, local mental health charity Norfolk and Waveney Mind is launching a 28 day squat challenge to help people stay active and motivated during the winter lockdown.

The virtual event runs from 5th November until 2nd December, with participants challenged to do 28 squats at home every day of the four-week lockdown.

You don't have to fundraise for Norfolk and Waveney Mind to take part, although donations to the charity are welcome.

Fundraising Manager Alex Haswell said: "As well as the benefits to our physical health, being active is fantastic for our wellbeing – it can reduce depression and anxiety, promote good sleep and help us feel more connected with others.

"We'd love as many people as possible to take part in our challenge and share your photos and videos on our Facebook event page."

Always remember to warm up and cool down before doing exercise and if you haven't exercised for a while, start gently and build up each day. If you're new to squats or have limited mobility, have a go at chair squats, where you sit up and down from a chair, with or without using your hands.
