New series of disability activity sessions launch across Norfolk

The launch of a new disability activity programme called On The Move will give around 1,500 disabled people in Norfolk the chance to become more active in centres and clubs across the county. The scheme has been brought about as the result of funding which Active Norfolk secured through Sport England's Core Markets fund.
The first phase of the four year project will see a number of activity sessions take place across five different locations across the county in Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Holt. In 2019, a further ten locations will become involved in the project and offer activities to people with disabilities in Norfolk. Over the four year project, more than 100 centres and clubs will become available for people with disabilities in our county.
Active Norfolk has secured almost £290,000 of Sport England Core Markets funding to support this revolutionary programme, which will aim to give people with disabilities the chance to find out more sessions available to them and what they can expect before they arrive. The project is the most significant funding to be brought into the county for several years and will provide a much-needed boost to disability sport and activity opportunities in Norfolk.
In order to deliver the activities, Active Norfolk has commissioned social enterprise, EPIC (Exercising People In Communities) to provide the sessions. Trainers from EPIC will first conduct taster sessions and service user consultations, then deliver tailored 10-week programmes of activity. Following the 10-week programme, the sessions will continue by the upskilling of identified sports champions in each centre, who will be trained to continue the sessions.
Ellen Vanlint, disability project officer at Active Norfolk, said: "On the Move will have a real impact on local sporting opportunities and the awareness of their locations, whilst supporting some of the adult care providers in Norfolk to offer more active opportunities to the benefit of their customers."
