1,000 Norfolk schoolchildren compete in tag rugby and cross country

The Winter School Games was underway in Norfolk last week as over 1,000 pupils from Norfolk schools competed in tag rugby and cross country events.

Norwich Rugby Club hosted the tag rugby final on 1st February, where qualifiers from all of the school sports partnerships (SSPs) played against each other in cup and plate competitions.

Matches were 8 a-side, including at least 2 girls per team and lasted 10 minutes. Sports Leaders from Northgate High – Dereham, Wymondham College, Iceni Academy and Easton College were on hand to officiate each match.

On 10th February over 400 pupils took part in the cross country finals at Gresham's School in Holt. The boys' and girls' races included 80 runners from each SSP. The course ran across fields and through woodland and the runners were cheered on by supportive spectators.

The event was supported by sports leaders from Alderman Peel High School, who acted as marshals to help guide runners around the course.

The 2017 Norfolk School Games Finals continue with Day 3 on Thursday 2nd March when the Special School Games & Primary School Swimming Gala is held at Sportspark, UEA.
