About National Physical Activity Lead

The National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) is offering a secondment or consultancy opportunity for a national physical activity lead over 12 months, in the first instance with the opportunity, subject to negotiation, for an extension of up to 2 years.

Pay band for secondments: £39.5 – 45k FTE, per annum, depending on experience, plus on-costs as agreed with current employer.
Consultancy rates, inclusive of additional costs such as expenses; please state in the application, rates that take account of the longer term nature of this appointment. VAT to be charged to NASP where applicable.

Hours: 5 days a week engagement - flexible hours will be accommodated where possible.

Background and purpose of this role

NASP is a newly registered charity and company limited by guarantee. Our goals are to promote social prescribing and to bring about a social revolution in wellbeing, as set out in the NASP Strategic Plan. This post is funded by Sport England and will support delivery of Sport England's new 10- year strategy, aiming to tackle existing health inequalities and support people to live healthy, active lives. This role will support the coordination of NASP work programmes and learning nationally and across regional physical activity teams, providing national context and joined up delivery to facilitate innovative and connected community partnerships across England.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the coordination of 7 regional physical activity leads within the NASP Thriving Communities Programme, who will be helping local community groups and VCFSE organisations to work with partners across the sport and physical activity, natural environment, arts and culture and financial wellbeing sectors, to develop innovative community partnerships that support those most impacted by COVID-19.
  • Lead work with NASP's key strategic partners across the sport and physical activity sector, to help shape the design and implementation of integrated community-based physical activity opportunities.
  • Support NASP to broker new or enhance existing strategic relationships with health, social care and voluntary and community sector partners
  • Support NASP's strategic developments, ensuring high quality sport and physical activity advice and services are built into social prescribing pathways and systems at local, regional, national levels.
  • Support NASP to build connections across multiple 'layers' of the sport and physical activity sector, health and social care system and across various VCFSE

The Candidate

  • Self-starter, proactive, energetic leader with a collaborative mindset
  • Experience of supporting sport and physical activity organisations to work in partnership with communities.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to be proactive and spot new opportunities.
  • Ability to engage with and influence strategic internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent partnership builder, able to build trusting long-term relationships withpartners to help people most impacted by COVID to be physically active.
  • Understands the pressures that local sport and physical activity providers, health andcare agencies, VCFSE organisations and community groups face, especially under
  • COVID, where resources have been stretched.
  • Excellent people manager, able to coordinate and motivate the work of regionalphysical activity advisors in helping to deliver NASP's Thriving Communities programme, which helps local VCFSE projects to partner with sports and leisure providers to increase community activities for those most impacted by COVID.
  • Great planner, able to co-produce delivery plans with partners, identify risks and manage them together.
  • Excellent communicator, able to raise the profile of physical activity in supporting NASP's ambitions for social prescribing.
  • Proven track record of working at a senior/strategic level, including playing a key role in influencing strategy/policy
  • Commitment to promoting equality and diversity in all aspects of your work.

Reporting to: NASP Head of Partnerships, plus regular planning meetings/progress reviews with Sport England

Base: Whilst NASP has office space at Southbank Centre in London, this role will be remote for the immediacy but will require a mixture of working from home, London meetings and national travel in the future.
