This seminar is designed for any individual who delivers or facilitates Sport & Physical Activity. It aims to develop, or update, knowledge and understanding of of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and exercise, enabling them to work safely and effectively alongside individuals living with this condition.

Health Series: Respiratory Diseases & Exercise

The seminar covers the aetiology and pathophysiology of asthma and COPD, the prevalence in the UK, the benefits and evidence supporting the importance of physical activity and exercise in the management of the conditions, alongside detailing an exercise prescription framework.

By the end of the seminar, you should feel confident and competent to plan and adapt existing exercise sessions for individuals with Asthma and COPD. The seminar will be delivered over 3 hours. There is no formal assessment for this seminar, but a quiz will be handed out to identify learning progress.

  • Explore the aetiology and pathophysiology of Asthma and COPD
  • Understand the recent prevalence statistics for Asthma and COPD in the UK
  • Identify the benefits of physical activity and exercise in the management of the condition
  • Highlight evidence supporting exercise and physical activity for people living with respiratory conditions
  • Identify an exercise prescription framework and adaptations for a sports environment
  • Recognise and apply health and safety considerations

Cancellation Policy

Where course cost is over £20 there will be a £5 admin fee for cancellation.

If notification to cancel is received with 2 weeks' notice you will be charged a cancellation fee of 50% of the course fee

If notification to cancel is received with 1 week's notice you will be charged a cancellation fee of 100% of the course fee

Transfers

Transfer to an alternative course is available with at least 1 week's notice, prior to the course start date. Requests to transfer after this date will not be accepted and the relevant cancellation policy will apply. Bookings made within 1 week of the course are not eligible for transfer.
