Recognising the best and brightest of physical activity achievements at the Norfolk Sports Awards

Once a year, we put on an awards night to recognise and reward all that is wonderful about sport and physical activity. This is the 12th year that Active Norfolk has hosted the ceremony, and every year we are increasingly overwhelmed with the tremendous amount of admirable activity going on locally.

It's really easy to get caught up in some of the heady achievements that so many of our finalists are making. The intense levels of international competition and the accolades that local athletes like Sophie McKinna, Jessica Jane Applegate, Iona Lake, Sophie Wright, Robert Lambert, Ryan Walsh - to name but a few - are achieving are so impressive. These professional athletes do Norfolk incredibly proud, are tremendous ambassadors for their sports, and we welcome the opportunity to showcase their achievements locally.

But beyond the top end of all these incredible achievements, there are the equally inspiring stories and achievements of grassroots community sport and physical activities. And it's these inspiring stories and the excitement of the awards night for these participants, that really help stoke the buzz around our awards.

Without an awards night like this, the hard work and dedication of thousands of individuals goes unsung. We are proud that we make time to honour not just those achieving great things on an international stage, but those people who are doing great things for themselves, their communities, their workplaces, clubs, and schools.

One person can make such difference. Whether that's raising thousands of pounds for charities through physical activity, mobilising your colleagues to be active, or volunteering at your local club or community event - people around Norfolk are using physical activity as a tool to positively impact on the lives of people in their community.

Last night we honoured them, and they too make us all proud. Well done to all the winners and shortlisted finalists - and to everyone who was nominated.
