Youth Hockey Coaching at Harleston Magpies
At the clubhouse and grounds in the heart of the Waveney Valley at Shotford Heath, Weybread – just outside Harleston, IP21 5UF - you will find some of the best hockey facilities in the East of England. However don't be fooled by our rural location - we aim to punch above our weight! Last season our successes included: U18 and U16 girls reaching the National Indoor Finals; the U14 girls reaching the England Hockey national finals weekend but our U12 girls exceeding all expectations by finishing runners up in their National competition.
However, as a parent you will be no doubt be pleased to hear that hockey starts much more locally with regular coaching at our grounds and local competitions. This season our U8s will have the opportunity to take part in a number of Quicksticks competitions on Friday evenings at Magpies. At U10 & U12 age group level Into Hockey tournaments are played on Sundays in Norfolk and Suffolk, approximately one tournament a month through to April. Then finally once your child has outgrown these age groups they progress into Development teams who play weekly matches on Saturdays before making their debuts into senior league teams.
Harleston Magpies Youth Development Officer, Harry Reidy leads a dedicated group of coaches in delivering our weekly coaching sessions, supported by a team of assistant coaches. With the Youth Committee ensuring there are enough parents and club members available to manage tournament teams, coordinate taster sessions, deliver holiday hockey camps and of course enable the annual Santa vs Elves Christmas matches!
New players are always welcome, whatever their experience.
