Norfolk County Golf Partnership

The Norfolk County Golf Partnership was officially launched on Saturday 23 February 2008 at Weston Park Golf Club.  Over half of Norfolk clubs were represented as well as representatives from the Norfolk Golf Union, Norfolk Professional Golfers' Association, Norfolk County Ladies Golf Association, School Sports Partnerships and Easton College.

Speakers on the day were Peter Johns, Chair Norfolk County Golf Partnership, Steven Peet, Regional Development Officer (EGU/EWGA) and Karen Young Norfolk Hockey and Golf Development Officer.

The main aim of the day was to outline the lead up to the formation of the Partnership, the targets within the Development and how the Partnership would like to work with clubs, professionals, schools and local authorities to move forward with golf development within the County.  Copies of the presentations are available by clicking the relevant links on the left.

The Development Plan is currently being updated and will be available on the left hand side of thepage shortly.

Safeguarding Children

The Partnership is very keen to ensure the children and young people have the opportunity to participate in golf activities delivered in a safe environment.  The NCGPA has adopted and agreed it's own policy and procedures in line with the England Golf Children in Golf guidelines.  More information about child protection in golf is available on the Children in Golf website - http://www.childreningolf.org/about.asp.  The Partnership's documents are available to download on the left hand side of the page.

Welfare

In the event that anyone has a concern, the Partnership's Welfare Officer is Ben Jones, the Child Protection Officer for Active Norfolk.  He can be contacted in full confidence by telephone on  01603 697016  or by email on ben.jones@activenorfolk.org.

Volunteering

Most sports volunteers rarely use the term 'volunteer' to describe their activities, they see themselves as club personnel, event organisers, club captains, chairman, junior organisers or artisans. Behind the scenes there are treasurers, committee members, planners, researchers, IT website managers, journalists and photographers. In short, there is a vast array of roles supporting and surrounding golf, without which the game would not be able to function.

The Golf Foundation run a Junior Golf Leaders' course for young people and adults who would like to get more involved with junior golf at a club and in schools.

England Golf have a volunteer strategy to recognise and support the volunteers and to help recruit more. This will ensure that golf will continue to grow.

The Norfolk County Golf Partnership is keen to encourage as many volunteers as possible to get involved with golf.  This could be as a helper at junior coaching sessions, a junior organiser, a liaison person, a young leader, a mentor etc.  There is more information about volunteering on the England Golf Volunteering website or contact Karen Young, Norfolk Golf Development Officer.
