Sport England

Sport England is responsible for promoting and investing in sport, helping the government meet its sporting objectives in this country and distributing both Lottery and Exchequer funds to sport. Our vision is to make England an active and successful sporting nation .

Sport England is the nation's biggest supporter. Since 1994, we have invested some £2bn into sport in England. Our resources (both human and financial) are allocated in order to meet our business objectives, getting people to:

• Start – to improve the health of the nation, particularly for disadvantaged groups
• Stay – through a thriving network of clubs, coaches and volunteers, and a commitment to equity
• Succeed in sport – via an infrastructure capable of developing world class performers

Working through our Eastern regional office, in tandem with the regional sports boards, our knowledge base and expertise in sports development drives our work with:

• Government
• Local authorities
• Health professionals
• National governing bodies
• Teachers
• The voluntary sector
• The commercial sector

We share best practice, set standards, build partnerships and promote the benefits of sport, which include healthier living, social inclusion and crime prevention. We also continuously monitor the impact of our investment programmes, conduct ongoing research into participation levels and manage the Sport England website which brings together information about activities, clubs, events and resources.
