Sport Makers

The Sport Makers programme, funded by the National Lottery, is one strand of Sport England’s Olympic legacy programme. It is an initiative that aims to capture the excitement around the Olympic Games and use it to encourage those over sixteen years of age to volunteer in community sport

Sport Makers are the people who directly make sport happen at the local level. Some Sport Makers will organise sport for themselves and their friends, colleagues and neighbours. Others won’t be taking part themselves, but will be doing all those other things that make the sporting activity possible.

Volunteers recruited through Sport Makers will attend an inspirational workshop organised by Active Norfolk, to inform and enthuse them on the Olympic values, the value of volunteering and the difference that they can make to community sport

Volunteers will then sign up to a website, www.sportmakers.co.uk, where they can book on to a workshop, browse deployment opportunities and record their hours volunteered. In order to complete the Sport Maker journey a volunteer needs to complete 10 hours of volunteering, although we will encourage and support those people to continue to volunteer beyond these initial hours. Once the 10 hours have been completed Sport Makers will receive a package of rewards including some Adidas kit and being entered into a draw for Olympic tickets!

These Sport Makers will organise and support hundreds of thousands of new hours of grassroots sport across the country. While doing so, they will bring the Olympic and Paralympic values to life in every community.
