Norfolk Golf Development
Golf is a new sport for Active Norfolk and it is one which we feel has real development potential across the whole age spectrum.
The main development in golf is the formation of the county golf partnership, which consists of the Norfolk County Golf Union, the Norfolk Ladies Golf Association and the Norfolk PGA. The aim of the partnership is to bring together the 3 county governing bodies to work in a co-operative and effective manner to deliver the Whole Sport Plan for golf.
The Whole Sport Plan for golf identifies 7 targets that it would like to achieve by 2013. These are:
- Increase the number of people playing golf.
- Retain existing members and recruit new ones.
- Help golf clubs to acheive the GolfMark Award.
- Develop programmes to recruit, retain and reward volunteers.
- Develop more volunteer coaches.
- Provide players with opportunities to achieve their potential.
These translate into 6 areas of possible work for the County Golf Partnerships:
- Promote Golf to increase people's awareness of the game.
- Introduce more people to golf from all backgrounds.
- Provide opportunities for people to sustain their involvement in golf.
- Educate people on the rules and etiquette of the game.
- Undertake the training of volunteers.
- Support the development of golf talent.
