UEA Skydiving to scoop share of £55k prize fund

22 June 2012

UEA Skydiving has been selected for the final stage of the RBS ESSA awards, sponsored by the RBS Group and LinkedIn, with a guaranteed prize of £500! They are urging people to view their youtube video and help them towards the presentation day on July 2.

More than 100 societies from across the country entered the awards, making this an outstanding achievement to go through to the final 22. As this is the first year UEA Skydiving has been in operation, it is all the more impressive.

Now the final 22 entries are set to battle it out in the finals which culminate at a presentation day on July 2, hosted in London, set to be attended by the national press, graduate recruiters and government officials. £55,000 is up for grabs with societies already gaining hundreds of thousands of YouTube views, compiling detailed presentation packs and hosting illustrious events throughout the academic year to complete their entries.

The RBS ESSA was created in order to recognise the enterprising activities of the active university societies up and down the country who raise funds, recruit members and organise events each year. The 317 RBS ESSA accredited societies generated an incredible £1.8m in turnover during the 2012/13 academic year, with a combined membership of over 76,000. Many of the accredited societies have a membership base exceeding 1000 and some turned over more than £100,000 this year! These societies truly deserve recognition under a national scheme.

James Colley, UEA Skydiving Club Treasurer is urging as many people as possible to view the video above in order for them to win the competition. This would enable them to purchase a full club rig (container, parachute, reserve parachute, cypress (automatic device)
