Sports Awards - 2011
The cream of sporting achievement and service were once again honoured at the Active Norfolk Sports Awards. The event, held at The Curve and Fusion facilities at the Forum in Norwich on Wednesday 30 November 2011 was hosted by BBC's Shaun Peel. Special guest on the night to present the awards was Paralympian Danny Nobbs.
The final award, the Active Norfolk Winner of Winners, was chosen from the successful candidates in all the categories and was awarded to Hethersett Village.
Winners and Runners UpSports Personality of the Year
Winner: Ben Youngs
Runners Up: Amy Conroy and Chrissie Wellington,
The category for the sporting champion, aimed at finding the people who have excelled in their chosen sport. This award celebrates the individual but it does not exclude those competing in a team sport. Nominees must be aged 19 or over on 31 October, 2011.
Team / Club of the Year
Winner: Norwich Canoe Club
Runners Up: Norfolk County FA U18s and Thoroughbreds Netball Club
The category for the group of players who have united to form some of the best teams in the county. Finalists could be the world champions at their chosen sport or the youth side that has finally won its first game after numerous attempts trying.
Coach of the Year
Winner: Dyson Pendle
Runners Up: Mark Spooner and Alexis Thurston
The category for the person behind the team or individual. Too often in sport, the focus falls entirely on the sports star in the limelight and forgets the person who made it all possible. Nominees must hold a current recognised National Governing Body coaching qualification.
Young Sports Person of the Year
Winner: Sophie McKinna
Runners Up: Albert Hicks and Will Smith
The category for the under-18s. As with the Sports Personality of the Year, this award celebrates the individual but it does not exclude those competing in a team sport. Nominees must be aged 18 or under on 31 October 2011.
Services to Sport (Keith Peel Award)
Winner: Coral Warren
Runners Up: Bruce Bushell and Carol Delf
The category for the unsung hero. This could be the parent who washes that filthy kit week in, week out, the organiser of the competitions we all play in or the supporter who never misses a match even when it’s snowing – anyone who deserves a big pat on the back but rarely gets one.
Sports School of the Year
Winner: Norwich School
Runners Up: John Grant School and Taverham High School
The category for the school that gives its pupils a wide range of opportunities to participate in high quality PE lessons and extra-curricular sport. Our children need to get healthier and so it is right that schools who aim to make this happen are rewarded.
Sporting Village of the Year
Winner: Hethersett
Runners Up: Aslacton & Great Moulton and Terrington St Clement
This category is sponsored by the Norfolk Village Games. This is a new award to recognise a village or community's effort and spirit whilst competing in the Norfolk Village Games 2011.

Runners Up: Iain Dawson, Tyree Robinson
The category for services to disability sport. This could include an inspirational coach, volunteer, player or individual - someone who has made a difference to any aspect of disability sport in Norfolk.
Active Norfolk Winner of Winners
Announced on the night and awarded to Hethersett Village for all the work they have done to promote and support sport for all in the community.
