GAIN for me
Patients who have been recommended the GAIN service by their GP surgery will be offered personalised telephone support and advice to find a suitable and enjoyable activity in their local area.
If your GP or Practice Nurse has recommended the GAIN service to you, they have identified that you could benefit from increasing your physical activity levels. The current guidelines recommend adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity every week, this can be spread out over the week in 10 minute chucks and doing something is better than nothing.
Being more physically active will have an immediate impact on your health and help protect it for the future too. Increasing your activity levels can help improve your quality of life, and change how you feel, both mentally and physically.
Changes can include:
- Having more energy
- Getting a healthier body shape and appearance
- Feeling less stressed or anxious
- Feeling more relaxed
- Reducing your risk of, or helping you mange a long term condition, such as diabetes or depression
You may also
- Sleep more easily
- Have better concentration
- Meet people and make friends
- Have more self-confidence
Evaluation of the Get Active in Norfolk (GAIN) programme
At Active Norfolk we want to understand how our programmes work and whether they help people live more active and healthy lives.
To understand this, during the inital phone call we would like to ask you some questions about you, your current physical activity, general health and wellbeing. Your responses will be kept confidential and will be used anonymously for the purpose of evaluation.
The evaluation is being conducted by researchers from the University of East Anglia (UEA).
You do not need to take part in the evaluation if you do not want to, and can do GAIN without taking part in the evaluation.
For further information about the evaluation please download the information sheet.
